The Fall Equinox: A Pause for Awareness and Intention

Long before we had digital calendars to organize our days, our ancestors looked to the movement of the Sun, Moon and stars to understand where they were within the year. The Spring and Fall Equinoxes were two such markers.

During an equinox, the Earth reaches a moment of near balance between day and night. In the Northern Hemisphere, the Fall Equinox marks the astronomical beginning of autumn and our movement toward shorter days and longer nights.

The light shifts. Temperatures cool. Leaves change color and eventually release. The outward energy of summer begins to soften.

Intention Setting and the Equinox

Throughout history, different cultures have marked seasonal changes in their own ways, often sharing themes of gratitude, preparation and recognizing that one season was giving way to another.

Today, this transition can offer us an opportunity to stop, listen, reflect and set an intention for the season ahead—a way of remembering how we would like to meet our lives.

We might begin with a few simple questions:

  • What has this year shown me?

  • What am I ready to carry forward?

  • What has completed its season?

  • What quality would help me meet what comes next?

The movements of the Sun, Moon and seasons do not need to define us or determine what happens next. They can simply become tools for knowing ourselves—reminders to look up, turn inward and, always, pay attention.

Perhaps that is the invitation of this Fall Equinox: to pause at the meeting place between light and darkness, recognize where we are within our own changing lives and consciously choose how we would like to continue.

If you would like to explore this seasonal pause more deeply, join me at Quantum Healing Room in Jenkintown, PA on Tuesday, September 22, from 7–8:30 p.m. for Fall Equinox: Scalar Yoga Nidra for Intention Setting.
